Message from Principal Montañez:

Welcome to Selma Herndon Elementary and to the 2016 - 2017 School Year!  We have an exciting school year planned for our students and many opportunities for our families to connect and participate in school activities.  Once again our students will take participate in 5 different Art Lessons presented by the MUSE Program.  Art lessons that are presented by certificated Art Instructors in this specific fields providing each classroom a one hour lesson with a final project to take home.  This will take place during the course of the school year.  In addition, we have a credentialed PE instructor Mr. William Ray who will be working directly with teachers and students on a 3 week rotation cycle teaching students the importance of physical education.  He will add a great addition to the regular PE schedule students participate in daily with their peers in their classrooms.  Another addition to our staff is our counseling program.  Mr. Diego Castro is our sites counselor and he will be here on campus 5 days a week providing small group social skill groups for all students, one on one support as deemed necessary.  Mr. Castro will also be teaching guidance lessons in all TK-5th grade classrooms.

We will continue to work as a team with parents and the community to provide our students the support necessary to achieve academically and socially.  We will foster a caring and nurturing educational learning environment.  Student efforts and achievements will be recognized through classroom and school wide assemblies.  The Six Pillars of Character Trait will be integrated in the school curriculum acknowledging students from each classroom during our monthly assemblies.   Parents and Community Members will continue to be an important member of our team.   Selma Herndon offers a  Parent Center ~  A place where parent volunteers will be able to provide classroom support for our teachers.  We host  monthly “Principals Coffee/Tea Hour” right here in our Parent Center.  We encourage our parents and community members to stop by for a cup of coffee and take this opportunity to meet Ms. Montañez, the school Principal and staff.  This will provide an opportunity to develop a strong bond with our school staff.

Please be sure to read our monthly calendar for additional activities here at Selma Herndon Elementary School.  On behalf of the Selma Herndon Staff and myself . . . I look forward to working with you and your child(ren).
